A rather unpleasant incident that happened to me this weekend got me thinking about the authorities and people. I found myself unable to act upon this and thus resorted to pondering over it and understanding my feelings.
Supporting these string of thoughts is a comparitive piece I read about India, China and Eqypt a few days ago. The comparison was very straightforward really:
China: Strong state, weak civil society
India: Weak central government, strong civil society
Egypt: Weak government, weak civil society
The one factor common to all? A great youth bulge of under 30 years of age
India’s been home for the past 18 months now. Experiences have been many but overall, my thoughts on believing that this country has bits and pieces which can really make great things happen have only been reinforced with time.
Why? I think about what I read and then compare that to what I’ve felt.
A weak central government and a strong civil society. At the state level, corruption and governance come to light. No doubt these need to be kept under control. However, blaming things on the state is really no excuse. From the little I understand and see around me, if India has risen, this movement has probably been despite the state.
How? 560million under the age of 25 in this country. I believe the rise has been because of people.
It’s already happening, I see it around me and on the tv. Tthe youth are active all over the country. There are however still pockets of young people who remain dormant.
Educate and Inspire.. Two words I would like to put out there for all those who are awake and have the willingness to expand.
