Hampi |
On a long weekend we set off from Bangalore, a group of happy people crammed into a minibus. Located within the ruins of Vijaynagara, stood Hampi, a village in Northern Karnataka.
The Vijaynagara empire, we were told, was built by two brothers who resisted Muslim invaders at the time. Thus, the beautiful temples and structures around Hampi, aren’t places of worship – instead they were built as strategic defense points. Legends were told to us about a particular rock – see it there? We were asked, a pillar which stood tall – over there right there, look! - Story tellers shared their stories with us.
Boulder-strewn landscape bordered by the Tungabhadra river on one side, and hills across all three others was our home for a weekend. Walking among the ruins, trekking up hills and some peaceful lazing, all this intertwined with tales of Hampi - a brilliant break!
